Legislation to create an Executive Office of Education

Jan 29, 2008

As part of his commitment to and vision for an education system that seeks to provide every child with the same, world-class opportunity, Governor Patrick recently filed Article 87 legislation to create an Executive Office of Education.

The legislation creates a cabinet-level position for education within the executive branch of our government--giving its leadership similar authority and position as the secretariats who consider our public safety, the health and growth of our economy, and our environment. Today, there is no office of education at the level of these other, important priorities.
Today, January 29, the governor will testify at the State House to emphasize the importance of dedicated education leadership at the very highest levels of state government. We need you to join him in making sure the legislature knows that this is a priority to you.
The hearing is at the Massachusetts State House in the Gardner Auditorium, at 10:30 a.m.
